Crime Talks for North Tyneside Residents

20/08/07

Senior police officers from North Shields Police Station are to attend a public meeting in North Tyneside next week to discuss the area’s crime problems with residents.

North Tyneside’s senior police officer Chief Superintendent Steve Storey will be meeting local residents at Hadrian Education Centre on 10th September to discuss plans for the future policing of the area.

The meeting has been organised by Northumbria Police Authority and will be chaired by Councillor Eddie Darke, who is a police authority member. The meeting is the latest in a series of Police and Community Forum meetings to be held in North Tyneside this year as part of the police authority’s regular consultations with the public about crime and policing.

One of the topics likely to be discussed is the areas new Police Station, currently being planned in Willington Square, Middle Engine Lane at Silverlink. A planning application is to be lodged in October. The £23m building with 40 cells will be home to 300 officers when it opens in Spring 2010

Chief Superintendent Steve Storey, area commander for North Tyneside, said: "Our priority is to continue to provide the very best police service for the community of Wallsend and North Tyneside. The new station will offer modern facilities and technology to enable us to meet the demands of policing in the future.
"We're committed to increasing public confidence and reducing crime and disorder and with the very best in technology and facilities the new site will allow us to continue do this.
"Plans of the new site and a basic model of the new station will be available at the meeting, and members of the public are invited to come along and see for themselves how their new police station will take shape. As and when developments happen we will let the community know."

Police and Community forums are open, public meetings which let local residents ask senior local police officers about the policing of their area - and have their say on its effectiveness. Anyone can come to a forum meeting to either have their say or simply listen to what is being discussed.

The next meeting of the North Tyneside Police and Community Forum will be held at Hadrian Education Centre on Monday 10th September at 7.00pm.
