Police leaflets to be delivered next week

3 March 2011

Age UK South TynesidePolice leaflets, jointly produced by Northumbria Police Authority and Northumbria Police, giving crime figures and news, will be delivered to all homes in Northumbria next week.

Six different versions of the leaflet will be sent out, one for each of the local authority areas that make up Northumbria - Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

All the articles and information that local people value, like crime figures for the previous year and contact details for local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, are in the leaflets but this year they are smaller, easier-to-keep guides.

By law, all police authorities have to send out police performance information to every household once a year. This year, the publication has changed from a 20 page magazine to a smaller fold-out leaflet, reducing the cost by over £30,000.

Councillor Mick Henry, Chair of Northumbria Police Authority said: “It’s important that every local resident knows how Northumbria Police has performed over the previous 12 months and that crime and anti-social behaviour continues to fall.  It’s also important that we achieve value for money, especially when times are tough. The new police leaflets provide all the information people value, but in a smaller, cheaper format.”
