Below are some useful links to external organisations that provide a range of services and information relevant to equality and diversity. Please contact us if you have any equality and diversity links that you think should be added.

Gender (Including Work Life Balance, Families and the Workplace and Low Pay)

  • Equal Opportunities Commission - working to eliminate sex discrimination in Britain.
  • Opportunity Now - works with employers to realise the full potential of women in the workforce.
  • Women and Equality Unit - Government department established to help deliver for women on the issues that matter most to them - includes information on reducing the pay gap and Work Life balance.
  • Low Pay Unit  - information on campaigns, statistics on low pay and inequality, and advice leaflets on employment rights.
  • Tommy’s - a registered charity, which addresses the concerns of parents-to-be in the workplace. 
  • TUC - Practical guidance for employers and unions to achieve a better work-life balance in the workplace.
  • Working Families - pragmatic advice and practical solutions to help children, working parents and carers and their employers find a better balance between responsibilities at home and work.
  • The Work Life Balance Centre - aims to raise awareness and promote discussion of work life balance issues.

  • The Disability Rights Commission - an independent body established in April 2000 by Act of Parliament to stop discrimination and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people.
  • The Dyslexia Institute - provides information about dyslexia plus tuition, bursaries and training.
  • The Dyspraxia Foundation - designed to help people understand and cope with dyspraxia.
  • RNID - Royal National Institute for the Deaf - UK’s largest charity representing 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people through many activities.
  • RNIB - Royal National Institute for the Blind - UK’s leading charity offering information, support and advice to people with sight problems.
  • Disability Rights Commission - working towards a society where all disabled people can participate fully as equal citizens.
  • Dial UK - national organisation for a network of 160 local Disability Information and Advice Line services run by and for disabled people.
  • Disability Information Service - Provides a comprehensive national database of disability information.
  • Employers Forum - leading employers’ organisation focused on disability as it affects business, making it easier to recruit and retain disabled employers and to serve disabled customers.
  • Mental Health Foundation - largest and most comprehensive website on mental health (and illness) including the latest news as well as information and support.
  • RADAR - campaigning and advisory disability body, run by and for disabled people, encouraging change and campaigning for a full inclusive society.

  • Age Positive - Department for Work and Pensions website promoting age diversity in employment.
  • Age Concern - UK’s largest organisation working with and for older people, providing local services as well as influencing public opinion and government.
  • Employers Forum on Age - independent network of leading employers, constantly highlights and increases knowledge and understanding about the issue of age discrimination at work.
  • Third Age Employment Network - a campaigning organisation, working with the media, employers and government to change attitudes and public policies, and committed to better opportunities for mature people to continue to learn, work and earn.

  • Victim Support  - an independent charity which helps people cope with the effects of crime.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau - helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.
  • ACAS - mediating in employment; advice on good industrial relations practice, including equal pay.
  • Andrea Adams Trust - UK charity dedicated to tackling workplace bullying.
  • Employer’s Organisation for Local Government - summary of the Equality Standard for local government on this site.
  • Stop Discrimination - A network of national organisations committed to progress on age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and broader equality issues
