Our Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs)
The EIA process
An EIA comprises of two stages:
- Stage One involves screening the policy, procedure, practice, service or, function to assess if it has the potential to adversely affect people of different equality strands (gender, race, disability, age, religion or faith and sexual orientation). It assesses and identifies any potential negative or positive impact and any gaps in the knowledge about the likely impact.
- Stage Two involves fully assessing the policy, procedure, practice, service or, function, identified in Stage One as having the potential to adversely affect people of different equality strands. This part provides an opportunity to assess the evidence for a potential negative impact. It ensures that research and consultation, with the equality target strand, is carried out and leads to an improvement plan aiming to minimise the negative impact and, where possible, increase positive impact.
